James Yorkston, The Second Hand Orchestra - The Wide, Wide River (CD ALBUM (1 DISC))

James Yorkstonand The Second HandOrchestra will release The Wide, Wide Riveron January 22nd. The album came to be after the blossoming of a long-term friendship between James Yorkstonand Karl-Jonas Winqvist, the Swedish music producer, leader and conductor of The Second HandOrchestra.

Recorded and mixed in Sweden over the course of three days with a selection of musicians Winqvisthad brought together, including Peter Morén(Peter, Bjorn & John) and Cecilia Österholm(one of Sweden's best-known nyckelharpa players). The studio approach with The Second HandOrchestra was entirely improvised around Yorkston'ssongs, and the only song they heard in advance was "Ella Mary Leather"; Yorkstondidn't want to direct anyone too much but instead, allowed for a welcoming, instinctive, free-spirited and joyful atmosphere. The resulting album, The Wide, Wide River, isa soothing, warm and sublime listen, whilst alsohighlighting Yorkston'sskills for songwriting, collaboration and as a musical conductor.
